Ok .. just tried the Task Manager again. Firefox is running anywhere up to 89!!

This page is all I have open.

Ingrid, open task manager again and click on the Networking tab and see how much activity there is, shouldn't be much at all.

If it was Firefox add-ons causing the problem when you were online, then I shouldn't do anymore. See how it runs tomorrow.

hi Ingrid just seen this thread.have you tryed systems restore.
go to all programs click accessories click systems tools
click systems restart.
then pick adate befor your troubles started.

I didn't think of Systems Restore until I saw your reply Ian .. thank you. 

I am happy to report that everything is working tip top today ... apart from me after my late night!!
