I hav'nt been doing much painting lately, but have been looking at what other people have been putting on to critique, and there has been some really good work , so I wasn't to sure whether to chance putting something on  but here goes, an honest opinion would be welcome

Diane, first of all, how great to see you back in the forum.  Wink

I'll be as honest as I can with a critique. It's not something we're very good at, but here goes. I think this is a gorgeous painting. It has a simple, flowing style that hits the spot as far as my own particular taste in watercolours go. I love the sweeping shape of the boats and the use of pale colours for the buildings means they don't detract from the main elements. If I'm being ultra nit-picky, I think you could have added just a hint more texture in the harbour wall, but I'm being really fussy and others will disagree. Your sky and water are both superb.

A very nice painting. A very, very nice painting. Please let's see some more.  Cheesy

Hi Diane .. as John says it is great to see you here!! Cheesy

I am useless at Critique but am coming to realise it is more helpful than offensive to an artist.

I think this is a beautiful, loose watercolour. Your boats are great, and I love your wall. The windows in your buildings are suggested, just as I like them.

The only thing I would do differently would be the shading on the gable end of your walls, you could strengthen that a bit. It would make your lovely light frontage stand out a bit and give more of a 3D effect.

Your sky and water are just gorgeous. A very nice watercolour indeed. It makes me smile when I look at it.  Cheesy

Thank You all for your comments , the harbour wall is the bit I wasn't to happy with either but couldn't decide what to do with it, without overworking it, which I could easily do if I start to fiddle now.
I think I'll leave it now,but I really appreciate your comments

Hi Diane! A very lovely painting. It's soft and well done.
My only comment would be where the upper part of the water, and the land and so forth meet. I can't think for the life of me how I would make it better, but it appears the water is running into the hill, or the hill into the water. As John said, just a picky point.
Look at any of my paintings and you'll see the same sort of thing. As we've talked about here on the forum, you can see views that are lovely, but if painted, no one would think it was of a real scene.
Keep up the good work!

I see what you mean there Millie .. it might be an idea to continue the wall until it disappears.

Hey Dian you misunderstood me, I think your wall is great. You have blended the colours into it very well.  It really is a nice painting.  Cheesy

personally, even if you feel that it isn't good enough to put up on this site i would encourage you to do so... because you are your own worst critique, let someone have a look at it and see what they see, believe me i feel like i draw like a five year old... i was not blessed with the gift of drawing art.
so no matter what it looks like please post it...
i laugh as i write this because while i am encouraging your... i think of a quote " practice what your preach" saying that to myself not to anyone.. because i am utterly terrified to put up my work because i can't draw in the least i do not pretend to. not even in my wildest dreams can i draw.

so with that being said.. i believe your drawing is wonderful
