I hope this might help some one. I have the original
drawing also, for some reason it didn't upload.  When
I find it, I will post it!

The last two pictures of the rose is the same, different light.
The painting's true color is between the two. My camera
doesn't like either light! Grrrrr!  Angry

Wow - a beautiful painting Pat - fabulous.

It's always nice to see a painting taking shape, and to see how other artists do things. What strikes me about this is that you started off by doing a very good pencil drawing. Not just a rough outline, but a piece of art in it's own right. I need to ask a question - I always have a problem with watermarks if I try and paint over a previous 'layer'. I've been told it's because the previous layer isn't dry. How long did you leave this between each layer?

John, in the rose itself I wait  until
the paint feels dry before applying
the next layer. The background is
wet in wet.

P.S. The water marks your talking
about, you should let it dry alittle
then with a wet brush carefully go
over the the line & pull in one direction.
then lightly scrub the line and again
pull in the same direction as before.

Thank you so much for doing the "in progress" photos.  That sure helps us newbies!
Did you erase some of the pencil shading?  When you darkened the rose on the edges I thought the pencil would show through, but it's gone.

Beautiful painting!

Bonnie,
I very seldom erase my pencil work!
So no, I didn't erase any shading.
If you look close you will see some
of it!  Big Grin

Ann,
I brought this to the top so you could see it! Also, it
might help some of the new people to see the stages,
that I do for my paintings.
