"Holtby Church"

About
Holtby Church Jeremy says "I found the mixture of brick, stone and
slate a challenge. The view point is unusual being the rear of the
church, but the mixture of shapes drew me to paint this view point.
About
the Gateway"This is of the Gateway into the area where
Lincoln Cathedral stands. I enjoyed the challenge of the light and shade
but feel that I have been too detailed in the execution of the building.
For the trees I used sponges of different textures. This was the first
time i have used sponges but will certainly use them again. |

Watercolours

Jacqueline has submitted these fine watercolours painted in her native
Lincolnshire. I like the lightness of her colour ... just as
watercolours should be in my opinion. |

"The Ulster History Park"

Ingrid made her first attempts on reaching her 50th birthday. Bad advice
on brush sizes ruined her first effort, but with better brushes she
tried again and has never looked back. Ingrid claims not to have found
her particular style yet, but believes she'll know it when she sees it.
Glamis Castle was Ingrid's
first 'proper' painting after completing Frank Clarke's book, and "The
Ulster History Park" was an exercise in Dermot Cavanagh's book "Awash
with Colour" painted shortly afterwards. |

I've always wanted to have a go at painting a picture but didn't have
a clue as where to start. I needed some direction as in what materials to use and what books to refer to so I looked on the internet
for a website for beginners. I came across this site,
bought Frank Clarkes Simply Painting book
and had a go.
I was amazed at how easy and rewarding it was, and it is true what
Frank Clarke says "Anyone can paint".
